Stakes-performed Diamond To Pegasus will go head-to-head on the training track with Magic Millions winner Karuta Queen before he resumes racing later this week.

Trainer Tony Sergi revealed the finishing touches of an almost three-month preparation will involve Diamond To Pegasus working with Karuta Queen on Tuesday morning.

They will match motors on the Queanbeyan course proper in a gallop which promises to give Sergi an invaluable insight into Diamond To Pegasus' chances in a Rosebud Qualifier for colts and geldings at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

"I was going trial him but because I don't like trialling my horses on the Acton (synthetic) track at Canberra there haven't been too many options," Sergi said.

"My preference is to keep him to grass tracks and having the course proper available at Queanbeyan is fantastic.

"Having a horse like Karuta Queen to gallop with makes it even better."

During his first racing campaign, Diamond To Pegasus progressed from a country maiden win to a surprise Listed race success in the Canonbury Stakes at Randwick.

Sergi didn't nominate Diamond To Pegasus for the Golden Slipper and he called an end to the youngster's autumn after he finished fourth - less than a length from the winner Uate - in the Skyline Stakes.

"He was probably a bit unlucky in the Skyline and the form has worked out well from the race through Uate and Hot Snitzel," Sergi said.

"He's been back in work for 10 to 11 weeks and when he came back into work he looked more like a three-year-old. Gee, he looked well."

Sergi said Diamond To Pegasus would present in the Warwick Farm mounting yard with a deep winter coat.

"The city-trained horses will look better than him but that doesn't matter," he said.

Ironically, Sergi has engaged the services of Karuta Queen's jockey to ride Diamond To Pegasus on Saturday.

"Tommy Berry is going to ride him because his brother (and regular rider) Nathan is suspended," Sergi said.

"Once Nathan was suspended, their manager was quick to get on the phone chasing the ride for Tommy."

Sergi is expecting Diamond To Pegasus to receive "around 57-1/2 or 58 kilograms" as the only stakes winner among a light entry of seven original nominations received on Monday.

In contrast, the Australian Turf Club has received 20 nominations for the Rosebud Qualifier for the fillies.
