Straight-track specialist Perturbo is favoured to land his first black-type success in Saturday's Group Three Aurie's Star Handicap at Flemington.

The Jugah six-year-old, co-trained by Colin Alderson and his daughter Cindy Alderson, has exceeded stable expectations mainly due to his performances down the straight course.

His first five wins were at provincial tracks Mornington, Ballarat (twice), Pakenham and Sale before he graduated to town with an eye-catching last-to-first victory over 1000m at Flemington in April 2010.

The gelding has since gone on to win over 1200m at Moonee Valley and twice more at Flemington at his past two starts, over 1000m in June and 1200m in July.

"It wasn't just me, everyone thought he was limited," Cindy Alderson said of the sprinter who has had nine starts at Flemington for three wins, two seconds, a third and a fourth.

"He runs really well there. He loves the straight. He's got better with age, he's like a good wine.

"He's a big, long strider and he appreciates racing in a straight line."

Alderson said another factor was that jockey Ben Melham had formed a good relationship with Perturbo.

Melham has been aboard for all of his four city wins and his fourth, beaten 6-1/2 lengths, to champion Black Caviar in the Group One William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last autumn.

Perturbo has drawn barrier 10 in Saturday's 14-horse field.

"That's fine for him. We probably want a bit of speed and a dry track, that's all he really needs," Alderson said.

"He's sound and he's happy and he might go to the Bobbie Lewis if he won this and then he might come back for something at the end of the spring when the carnival goes back to Flemington.

"I just don't get the impression that he'll handle Caulfield, by the time he gets around the corner it will be a bit too late."

Perturbo ran fourth to Doubtful Jack in last year's Bobbie Lewis which was run on a heavy (8) track.

The Group Three Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) is at Flemington on September 3.

Perturbo is $3.20 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Offenders at $5, Miss Gai Flyer ($5.50), Temple Of Boom ($7.50) and State Grade ($8.50) with Nicholls Court and Rekindled Interest at $11.

The Flemington track was on Friday rated a good (3).
