Michelle Payne will appeal the severity of a 16-meeting careless riding suspension due to begin this week.

Payne had one of her best days in the saddle on Saturday when she landed her second Flemington double, the first being in her apprentice days.

She won the Chester Manifold Stakes aboard Rok Posta for Cranbourne trainer Nikki Burke and the Elms Handicap on the Mick Kent-trained first starter Fair Trade.

Payne was outed over her ride on for Expeditionnaire in the Class 1 Hcp (1216m) at Mornington on Friday.

Payne's suspension of five city and 11 country meetings was due to begin at midnight on Tuesday and expire at midnight on February 4.

Premier jockey Craig Williams was without a win at the Flemington meeting and also picked up an eight meeting ban which will put him out of Friday night's Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Williams had been in the running to ride multiple Group One winner El Segundo in the Carlyon.

The Melbourne jockey ranks have been further depleted with Damien Oliver and Nick Ryan both beginning 12-meeting suspensions after Saturday's racing.
