Trainer Patrick Payne is aiming to win his second Group Two Sunline Stakes in three years.

Payne will run Princess Marizza in Saturday's 1600m Moonee Valley feature after winning the race with Laura's Charm a month after being granted his trainer's licence in 2008.

Last year Princess Marizza finished a three-length fifth to Subtle Cove in the Sunline but Payne has given her two runs this campaign plus a trial at Moe to help bring her to her top.

"She is getting pretty close now," Payne said.

Payne excused Princess Marizza's first-up run when she finished last in a small field at Caulfield while last start she was beaten a long neck by Old Worlde at Terang when stepping up to 1400 metres.

Payne said her 2-1/2 length win in barrier trial at Moe had again improved her but he questioned whether she was as good as two years ago when trained by Mark Kavanagh.

"It remains to be seen if she is as good now," Payne said.

"I think she will run pretty well on Saturday but she likes to get back and might be better suited at Flemington."

After last year's Sunline Princess Marizza ran one of her better races for Payne when she came from near last to finish third to Fifth Avenue Lady in the Group Three Patinack Farm Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

She also won a Listed race in Adelaide but trained off at her next two runs before being spelled before this campaign.

Payne said Zarita looked exceptionally well placed under the weight-for-age conditions which ensures every runner in the Sunline on Saturday carries 57kg.

Trained by Pat Hyland, Zarita hasn't raced at the Valley since winning the Stocks Stakes (1600m) in September and was an eye-catching first-up third to Joku and Danzylum in last month's Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

She dominates the Sunline betting at $2.20 ahead of $6 chances Rolling Stock and Casual Friday.

Princess Marizza is at $12 and will be ridden by Payne's sister Michelle.
