After a narrow defeat in the Rowley Mile, trainer Pat Webster is confident Parfumier is ready to turn in a big performance in Friday's Scone Cup, providing he gets conditions to suit in the country feature.

Parfumier finished a close third to Snow Alert in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury last start but Webster said the gelding wasn't suited by the dead track that day.

Parfumier has a decent record at Friday's 1600m with two wins and four placings from eight attempts at the trip, including a win in the Goulburn Cup last year and a second to Palacio De Cristal in the Group Two Villiers Stakes in December.

"I'm very happy with him and he just needs to draw an alley and get a bit of cover in the run," Webster, who trains Parfumier in partnership with his son Wayne, said.

"It was a great run at Hawkesbury last start. He's won on a slow track before but I don't know how he did.

"The harder the track the better it is for him and I think if it was a good track last start he would've won."

Being a seven-year-old, Webster said it had taken Parfumier a bit longer to hit his best form this preparation but his performance at Hawkesbury suggested he was nearing his top.

Parfumier finished only a head and a short head from Snow Alert, with the Gerald Ryan-trained Keffiya spitting that pair in second place.

All three are among the nominations for the $120,000 Listed race on Friday, one of the features on the day which also includes the Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) for fillies and mares and the $740,000 Scone Inglis Guineas (1600m) for three-year-olds.

Webster is happy for Parfumier to get to the big track at Scone.

"The Rowley Mile and the Scone Cup were the two races we aimed at," Webster said.

"We looked at the Scone Cup because it's a big, roomy track. If he doesn't run any good I'll have no excuses."

Chris Waller said the Scone Cup was a natural progression for Rowley Mile winner Snow Alert.

"I thought it was a good effort and a good ride by Daniel Ganderton," Waller said of the Hawkesbury win.

"I think this horse has got a bit of scope to get to 2000 metres so there's a bit of upside there with him."

Group One winner Mentality will also head to the Scone Cup providing the track is good.

The John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes-trained gelding led the field in the Rowley Mile before finishing eighth, beaten under three lengths.

Mentality will be team Hawkes' only runner at Scone.

"He's the only one, let's hope it's a winner," Michael Hawkes said.

"He's ready, he just needs a dry track."
