Parfumier's recent return to the winners' list has trainer Pat Webster in a buoyant mood ahead of the Festival Stakes.

The seven-year-old claimed the Goulburn Cup at his most recent start, making amends for his nose defeat by Voice Commander last year.

The Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday is a vital lead-up to the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

Parfumier, known affectionately as Puff by Webster and his son and training partner Wayne, was ninth, beaten less than two lengths, in the 2008 Villiers won by Something Anything.

"It would be nice for him if he could win and go on and win a race like the Villiers," Webster said.

"He is a lovely old horse. He's seven now so the options are limited.

"But he's a happy horse and if he's happy he runs good.

"And if Puff's happy, I'm happy.

"His win in the Goulburn Cup was impressive and the horse he beat, Macknuckle, went on to win the Canberra Cup so the form is pretty good.

"And the horse that beat him at Goulburn last year is pretty good as well."

Voice Commander backed up his Goulburn Cup win with victory in the 2008 Festival Stakes.

Parfumier was a $12 chance in TAB Sportsbet's fixed odds market on Friday with Theophorus and Walking Or Dancing sharing $6.50 favouritism ahead of Lyncean Academy and Rockwood at $7.50.

Parfumier is a half-brother to 2003 Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.

Although Parfumier has been tried over longer distances and even has a win over 1900 metres, his best performances have come at the 1400 to 1600-metre range.

"He won a 1900-metre race at Canterbury in a small field but other times we've stepped him up he's loomed up to win but died on his run," Webster said.

"So now we just keep him around the mile which is what he's best at."

Parfumier is raced by businessman Gerry Harvey who also has the Chris Waller-trained Love And Kisses in the Festival.

Love And Kisses is also a last-start winner having beaten Dubai To Sydney over 1400 metres at Rosehill on November 14.

"I'd like Gerry to win and if Puff can't then I'd want to see the mare win," Webster said.

"Parfumier is very fit and well. My only concern is that sometimes with older horses you only get so many good runs a preparation.

"But he is a lovely, gentle and relaxed horse and couldn't be any better in himself.

"He is most definitely my favourite in the stable and I'd love to see him win a big race."
