Orca remains on target for the Queensland Derby with trainer Guy Walter saying his unplaced run in the Rough Habit Plate should be forgiven and forgotten.

Orca started $4 favourite in the traditional Derby leadup at Doomben on May 23 and finished ninth of 16 runners.

The race was won by Rockdale who led all the way on the heavy track with Orca disappointed for a run back in the pack.

"I'm prepared to forgive him one bad run in a preparation and forget the race," Walter said.

"He had no luck in running and got held up on what was a very, very heavy track .

"I'm very happy with how he pulled up. He's come through the race well and worked over a mile at Deagon on the grass on Thursday.

"He will do similar work on Tuesday in his final serious hitout before the Derby.

"Eagle Farm is a more spacious track than Doomben and will suit him much better."

"Apart from his last start he has been very consistent this time around."

Orca signalled he was a serious stakes contender with his third to Whobegotyou in the AAMI Vase in the spring before his 10th in the Victoria Derby.

A grazed knee put paid to his AUC Australian Derby prospects but his breakthrough win over stablemate The Astronomer in the Carbine Club Stakes and second to another stablemate Yallingup in the Frank Packer Plate confirmed a tilt at the Queensland classic.

He copped an early check in the Group Three Doomben Classic (1615m), running on to finish second to Za Magic.

Orca is owned by former New Zealand Test cricketer Terry Jarvis who also races Rocha, winner of the Wakeful Stakes at Flemington last spring and fifth in the Victorian Oaks.

The filly's autumn Oaks campaign was derailed by a tendon injury after she finished third in the Surround Stakes.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Nothin' Leica Cat did make it to the AJC Australian Oaks where she finished fourth then improved on that to run second to Purple in Saturday's Queensland Oaks.

All being well over the next few days, Nothin' Leica Cat will be one of Orca's opponents in the Queensland Derby.
