Hall of Fame jockey Damien Oliver will continue his battle for his eighth Melbourne Jockeys Premiership at Flemington on Saturday after being granted a stay of proceedings following a 10-meeting suspension at Sandown this week.

Oliver was suspended for his ride on Tilda in the Siren Song Handicap on Wednesday and will have his appeal heard on Monday morning.

He has six rides at Flemington and is hoping to overtake arch rival Craig Williams, who with 64 winners this season, leads him by one on the premiership table.

Williams will ride in all eight races at Flemington.

Every mount is crucial for Oliver as he has only three city meetings left before he takes a break from race riding after Flemington's July 4 meeting.

If his appeal fails he will not ride again in the city after Saturday and Williams will take the title at the end of the season on July 31 virtually unchallenged.

On Saturday Oliver and Williams will go head to head in the opening race, SMS Scaffolding Handicap (1100m), with Oliver on the Mick Price-trained first starter Penn State and Williams on last-start Sandown placegetter The Fugitive for David Hayes.

Williams will ride the Hayes-trained Bendigo winner Leoncavallo in the Event Studios Australia Handicap (1410m) while Oliver will be aiming to boot home the Leon Corstens-trained Italian Machine, who has finished second at his last two city starts.

Starkron, from the stable of Bill and Symon Wilde, is one of Oliver's best chances in the Tiger Corporation Handicap (1620m) but Handsome Is has solid claims for Williams.

Oliver's mount, Rain In Africa, needs to improve on his last start fourth at Moonee Valley in the Hanan Displays Handicap (1720m) as Williams has last-start Flemington winner Peace Treaty running for him.

Oliver's remaining rides are Chortova (ACG Security Handicap) and Global Warming (Edgewater Meats Handicap) while Williams will ride Burley Griffin and Arinos in those respective races as well as Red Buttons in the Victoria Plate (2000m) and Tictacs in the sixth heat of the Winter Championship (1410m).
