"Ugly duckling" Offer got under the guard of punters when she scored an upset win at Sandown on Wednesday.

The beautifully-bred filly by champion sire Redoute's Choice is the first foal of Newhaven Park Stud-owned mare Media, a Group Two winner of the 2005 Magic Night Stakes and third in the Golden Slipper that year to Stratum.

However Offer's conformation leaves a lot to be desired, according to Geelong trainer Heath Connors.

"The poor little thing. She's an ugly duckling, she's got dreadful legs and a dreadful body. She's got a square rump and she's lopsided," he said.

"I'd say she'll be going to stud after this preparation but if we can pick up another race or get a little bit of black type in the next few weeks it would be terrific.

"Dad (Clarry Conners) had her up in Sydney but she kept getting sore all the time. That's why they brought her down here for this preparation.

"It was working her going the Sydney way so you've got to try something different. She's come down here and I think the synthetic track at Geelong has helped her.

"A lot of the horses I have that have bad legs love it because it's a flat surface.

"She's done really well and she ran a really good time when she won last start (over 1300m) at Geelong (on the synthetic track).

Offer was third to Anise over 1100m at Rosehill last November but that was her only placing in four Sydney runs.

She ran second at Geelong before winning there and then making it two straight on Wednesday.

Conners has a 1400m three-year-old fillies event picked out for her at Caulfield on September 24.

Offer ($13), ridden off the pace by Dean Yendall in the Premier Signs Hcp (1400m), came home well to score by three-quarters of a length from Peninsula Dane ($13) with Heaven's Choice ($4.80) a head away third.

Plucky Belle, who eased from her opening quote of $1.40 to start $1.90 favourite, ran a disappointing fourth.

Jockey Luke Nolen explained to stewards he thought the Peter Moody-trained filly may have come to the end of her preparation.

Former New Zealander Vittoria, resuming for new trainer Mick Kent, was backed from as much as $21 to start at $5 but never raised her supporters' hopes, beating just one runner home in seventh place.

Rider Glen Boss told stewards the filly would appreciate a longer trip.

Meanwhile, Montgomery will be aimed at the $100,000 RM Ansett Classic (2400m) at Mornington following his win in The Cove Hotel Hcp (2100m).

Co-trainer Cindy Alderson said the Montjeu six-year-old gelding, twice a winner over 3000m at Moonee Valley in January, had been racing above expectations this preparation.
