Master trainer Aidan O'Brien's teenage son Joseph will ride Byzantine, one of his father's seven runners in the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday.

Byzantine is a rank outsider at 500-1 with some bookmakers, the Racing Post reported.

It said Johnny Murtagh had pinned his colours to the mast of Fame And Glory earlier in the week while O'Brien's team of jockeys for the remaining five runners is Drumbeat (Pat Smullen), Golden Sword (Colm O'Donoghue), Hail Caesar (David McCabe), Masterofthehorse (Seamie Heffernan) and Rockhampton (Sean Levey).

There are 13 declarations for the Group One race for which Epsom Derby winner Sea The Stars is favourite.

Murtagh has a healthy respect for Sea The Stars as he links up with Fame And Glory for the first time since April's Ballysax Stakes.

"It's going to be a great race," he said.

"I rode my horse last week and he felt like he had improved from Epsom. He's a solid, typical Ballydoyle improver.

"Sea The Stars is the champion and we all have to beat him.

"Everyone's there at the Irish Derby, the cards are there to be played and it all depends which horse has improved the most."
