Was lived up to her lofty price-tag when making a pleasing winning debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at the Curragh.

The daughter of Galileo, a 1.2 million guineas yearling purchase and closely related to 2008 Derby victor New Approach, knew what was required of her and did it with some aplomb.

Sitting handily just behind the pace in the hands of her trainer Aidan O'Brien's son, Joseph, Was (9-2) quickened nicely into the lead just over a furlong out and was soon in command.

She went on to score quite cosily by two-and-a-half lengths from her stablemate Cabin, with Jessie Jane a neck away third.

Aidan O'Brien said: "All my fillies there (Was, Cabin and Purple, sixth) ran nicely.

"Was is a lovely filly and the second filly (Cabin) ran a lovely race, too.

"Was will probably stay well in time and we will take our time with Was now - she'll go for a stakes race next."
