No Evidence Needed proved to Patinack Farm trainer John Thompson that she was worth a crack at the Group One Myer Stakes on Derby Day when she took out the Group Two Let's Elope Stakes at Flemington.

The Shamardal four-year-old landed her fifth and most important victory after promising to do so last autumn when she performed admirably in Group One and Two events.

She was runner-up to stablemate Small Minds, who was 11th in Saturday's race, in the Australasian Oaks (2006m) at Morphettville after finishing fourth over 1400m at Group Two level in the Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield and third in the Kewney Stakes at Flemington.

"She's a lovely filly and was really deserving of that," Thompson said.

"She's worth a crack at the Myer Classic."

Ridden by James Winks, No Evidence Needed ($20) handled the slow (7) going - downgraded to a heavy (8) after the race - well to hold out Response ($4.20 fav) by a short head with race leader Live In Sin ($21) a short neck away third.

Thompson and Patinack Farm Racing Syndicate manager Nathan Tinkler are big fans of the filly's sire Shamardal.

"He's a superstar, his progeny are sound and tough and they can all run and I hope to get a few more of them," Thompson said.

Winks, who was announced as Danny O'Brien's stable rider during the week, said he had the perfect record for Patinack to date with two rides for two winners.

"She's on the Myer Classic (1600m) path and she'll be damn competitive in that," Winks said.

"She travelled nicely and sprinted really well about the 400 metres and peaked at the 100 metres but she had the momentum and to her to her credit she was good enough to hold on."
