Craig Newitt is clear to ride Pompeii Ruler in the $2.8 million Singapore Airlines International Cup after successfully appealing the severity of a careless riding suspension.

"It's a big relief and I'm booked to fly out tomorrow," Newitt said on Tuesday.

"The hearing went for two and a half hours but it's been a good result.

"The Singapore Cup is such a big race I had to appeal - more in hope than anything else.

"The original penalty I received at the Gold Coast was one of the most severe I've had since I've been riding in Queensland the last couple of years."

Newitt was suspended for 10 meetings for causing interference on the Mick Price-trained Rightfully Yours in the Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast on May 2.

Rightfully Yours was first past the post but was relegated to second behind Mr Hornblower on protest.

Newitt's first level appeal was upheld on Tuesday and his sentence was reduced to eight meetings while his original $2,000 fine was increased to $5,000.

His suspension will now conclude at midnight on May 16 allowing him to ride Pompeii Ruler the following day in Singapore.

Damien Oliver and Darren Beadman were on standby to replace Newitt had he lost his appeal.

Pompeii Ruler won the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick at his last start.

Sportingbet Australia on Tuesday had Pompeii Ruler on the fourth line of betting for the Singapore feature at $7 with the Luca Cumani-trained Presvis the $2.50 favourite.

"After watching Presvis win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in Hong Kong it was hard not to be impressed," Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.

"But he does get back and may need to get through some traffic in the straight which does give a genuine on-pacer such as Pompeii Ruler some hope."

Australia's other representative in the Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m), the Mike Moroney-trained Sarrera, is on the sixth line of betting at $10.
