Chris Munce's return to Queensland has been soured by stewards who suspended him for careless riding in the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast.

Munce had not ridden in Queensland since he won the Group One TJ Smith Stakes at Eagle Farm on Reigning To Win in 2006 and his homecoming was far from a joyous occasion.

Stewards found Munce guilty of allowing Simplest to shift out passing the 200 metres in the Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) when not clear of Sir Monashee.

That horse suffered interference with two others - Al's Best Mate and Ben Hur - having to be checked.

Munce was outed from January 14 to 26.

A three-time winner of the Magic Millions Classic on Sunblazer (1989), Excellerator (2001) and Dance Hero ($2004), Munce finished third on the Barry Baldwin-trained Demanding Miss in Saturday's $2 million Classic won by Military Rose.

Gold Coast jockey Paul Hammersley copped two suspensions for interference he caused aboard Startsmeup in the Magic Millions Classic.

Hammersley's first offence came at the 300 metres when he allowed Startsmeup to shift in and cause interference to Triple Crown and he was also charged with allowing his mount to shift out at the 50 metres and cause severe interference to Bright Expectations and Mundi Gully.

He was outed for eight meetings for the first offence and 11 meetings for the second with both suspensions be served concurrently.

Hammersley will resume riding on January 29.
