Mike Moroney will stay at home with in-form galloper Syndrome who will run on his home track at Flemington rather than venturing to Randwick for Saturday's Group Two Villiers Stakes.

The last-start Wodonga Cup winner was weighted on the minimum in the $150,000 Villiers (1600m) but will instead contest Saturday's Skipton Handicap (1600m) at Flemington.

"We nominated him for the Villiers but we've decided we are going to leave him here and run him at Flemington," Moroney said.

"We think if he steps up in distance he is the right sort of horse for the races in Tasmania (Hobart Cup and Launceston Cup).

"He's a very promising horse. He's one that has sneaked up on us, he's very casual on the track but when you look at his form he has a great record and the further he goes the better he'll get."

A four-year-old by Danzig stallion Ishiguru, Syndrome has raced eight times for three wins, three seconds and a third.

He started his career in New Zealand where he ran second at both starts before a three-race winter campaign in Queensland where he won an Ipswich Maiden (1350m) and was placed twice.

One of those was his third to Za Magic in the Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on a heavy track.

The gelding has won twice this preparation including his Wodonga Cup (1590m) victory late last month on a slow track, beating Berringama by a length.

Berringama was subsequently runner-up to Tears I Cry over 1400m at Flemington last Saturday.

Syndrome is weighted to carry 56kg on Saturday, three kilograms above the minimum.

Equal topweights in the Skipton with 59kg are Lucky Thunder and Silky Smooth.
