CHAMPION New Zealand jockey Lisa Cropp knew it was going to be tough to break into the competitive Victorian riding ranks after arriving in the middle of the spring carnival but her hard work is starting to pay off and yesterday she booted home a winning treble, reports the Sunday Age.

It says: Cropp had had a busy day on Friday riding work at Mornington and Cranbourne before returning to Mornington to win a race on Sassy Bay, then heading to Moonee Valley where she won the last race on Nostoppinthemusic. Yesterday's treble, two of them for trainer Robbie Laing, made it eight wins for the week.

''It was great to get a win at Moonee Valley because I hadn't won there before and it wasn't hard to get out of bed today because I was pretty excited about having some nice rides,'' Cropp said after her first win in the opening race on Laing's first starter Grand Britannia.

After being only fairly away, Grand Britannia ($5) was held up for a run in the straight before driving through a gap inside the 200 metres to grab The Counterfeiter ($8.50), who had kicked clear early in the straight.

Cropp's second win came on Syndrome for trainer Mike Moroney, a fellow New Zealander. She had Syndrome up on the speed all the way before getting well away from the rail in the straight, to score a five-length win over Makeadreamcometrue ($5.50).

''I've ridden a lot for Mike over the years and all his horses are very fit so I wasn't afraid to use him up a bit early,'' she said of Syndrome.

Laing and Cropp finished with a win in the last with Macquina ($4.60) but Cropp won't be resting on her laurels today.

'''It's just been a super day but I can't wait for tomorrow,'' said Cropp, who heads to Wodonga for seven rides.
