Gerald Ryan is hoping for a firm track at Randwick on Saturday to aid Melito's bid for a second Group One victory this autumn.

The filly, who posted a deserved win at the elite level in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 10, will line up in Saturday's Group One All-Aged Stakes (1400m) on the final day of the carnival.

Ryan said Melito had done a treat since her last start victory and her work on the weekend suggested she had improved again.

"She did a bit of work on Saturday morning and she is bright and well," Ryan said.

"I'd just like to see a fine week."

Melito only lined up in the TJ Smith as an afterthought but the belated move proved a lucrative one when she produced a whirlwind finish to overpower Hot Danish.

That was on a dead track and her only other wins both came on good ground.

Ryan believes the extra distance of the All-Aged will be more to Melito's liking and the Randwick feature has always been on the agenda.

Hot Danish and Mic Mac filled the placings behind Melito in the TJ Smith and both are among the 16 entries for the All-Aged on Saturday.

Doncaster Mile winner Rangirangdoo is also there but he is more likely to back up in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) provided he pleases trainer Chris Waller during the week.

Stablemates Danleigh, an eye-catching fifth in the Doncaster, and Triple Honour who ran seventh, are also nominated for both races.

Danleigh won the All-Aged last year and it is the more likely option again where he will meet another stablemate, Metal Bender.

Ryan is set to be well represented in the Group Two Emancipation Stakes (1600m) for the mares nominating Beaucoup, Mysterious Light and classy stayer Ready To Lift.

Ready To Lift won the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) in the spring but failed to fire in three starts in Melbourne.

Saturday's race will be her first since she beat just two runners home in the Moonee Valley Cup won by The Sportsman and Ryan has readied her for a return with two barrier trials.

While Ready To Lift is not a noted first-up performer, Ryan has warned punters not to let her under their guard this weekend.

"She has come back terrific. Her two trials have been really good," Ryan said.

"She won first-up after EI over 1200 metres but normally she runs well first-up but doesn't win. Having said that, she has never run over a mile first-up either."

Ready To Lift is being aimed at the Brisbane Cup for the second consecutive year after finishing runner-up to Scenic Shot in the Group Two staying feature 12 months ago.
