Jockey Luke Nolen says Wanted's last-start win in the Group One Newmarket Handicap could be the turning point of the three-year-old's career.

Nolen, who will ride Wanted in Saturday's Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, said the Newmarket may have been the race Wanted needed to win to get his career to another level.

"Sometimes when they have been so consistent and they win a race like that horses find it a bit easier to win again," Nolen said.

"It gives them that confidence to go on."

A week ago Nolen looked set to have rides in all of Saturday's Group One features at Randwick on Peter Moody-trained gallopers but this week Hanks was pulled out of the AJC Australian Derby and Willow Creek also dropped out of the Sires' Produce Stakes.

"When they come out so close to acceptances it makes it hard to get other rides in those races," Nolen said.

With all his Group One hopes now vested in Wanted, he is looking to add to his tally at the elite level after scoring on stablemate Typhoon Tracy in last Saturday's Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m).

"He has been ticking over since Newmarket and is going really well," Nolen said of Wanted.

"He is an honest horse and somewhat of a benchmark horse with his record.

"While he has only won one of those big races he has been thereabouts every time."

The Fastnet Rock colt has won three of his 14 starts of which more than half have been Group One races, including his last six runs.

Last spring he was second to All Silent in the Patinack Farm Classic and this campaign was second to Nicconi in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington and second to Turffontein in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.

He landed the Newmarket after a half-length fourth to Starspangledbanner in the Oakleigh Plate.

His other Group One performances were 10th in the Golden Slipper Stakes, fourth in the Manikato Stakes and seventh in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

He faces only six rivals in the TJ Smith with Hot Danish the $2.80 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Mic Mac ($3.20).

Wanted is $3.40 ahead of Patronyme and Melito at $12 with Metal Bender and Lord Tavistock at $23.
