Australia's leading female rider Clare Lindop has ridden her first English winner at Haydock.

Lindop was aboard One Way Or Another who held off the challenge by Charlie Tipple by a head in a class three race over a mile (1600m) on Saturday.

The win was an all-Australian affair with former Adelaide trainer Jeremy Gask saddling up One Way Or Another.

The gelding raced in Australia out of the David Hayes stable and won four of his 25 starts.

Lindop finished second on her other ride at the meeting, Catalan Bay, who was beaten a length.

Catalan Bay was prepared by Lee Freedman before being sold and taken to England.

Gask, who trains for Eamonn Wilmott's Horses First stable in Wiltshire, was appointed to the English stable in 2007.

Lindop, who rode Rebel Raider to an historic Victoria Derby win last year, is currently on a working holiday.

She will return to Australia in a few weeks to prepare for the new season and Rebel Raider's Melbourne Cup bid.

The Leon Macdonald-trained Rebel Raider is the early favourite for the Cup with corporate bookmakers who have him at $17.

Although she prefers to be known in the racing world as a jockey first and a woman second, Lindop has gone where no other female rider has before.

She was the first woman to win a major metropolitan jockeys' premiership and the first Australian woman to ride in the Melbourne Cup.

Lindop has so far ridden three Group One winners - Exalted Time in the 2006 Adelaide Cup and Rebel Raider in the Victoria and South Australian Derbys.

She also won the 2008 Magic Millions aboard the Macdonald-trained Augusta Proud.
