Patinack Farm's talented colt Levi's Choice will be given a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday ahead of an ambitious spring campaign in two states, culminating in the Group One Caulfield Guineas in October.

Levi's Choice will trial over 800 metres before making his comeback in the Listed Ming Dynasty Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on September 4.

Trainer John Thompson is delighted with the progress Levi's Choice has made since he was sent to Queensland in May for the Brisbane winter carnival.

Thompson's assistant Toby Edmonds prepared Levi's Choice during the winter when he had four starts, winning a maiden at Eagle Farm on May 12 before taking the leap to black-type company.

The son of Galileo finished ninth to stablemate Run For Levi in the Listed Doomben Slipper (1350m) on May 29 before producing a super effort to finish third to Pressday in the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 5.

He then backed up for the third consecutive week and finished ninth to Pressday in the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Edmonds predicted a bright future for Levi's Choice who returned to Thompson in Sydney following a short break at Wadham Park in the Gold Coast hinterland.

"He did a terrific job to run third in the Sires and his run wasn't as good in the TJ but it was his third week in a row," Edmonds said.

"The Sires turned out to be his grand final and I think he's a young horse on the way up."

Levi's Choice was a $160,000 purchase by mining magnate Nathan Tinkler at the 2008 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and was the last foal from Nina Haraka who died on New Year's Day in 2008.

Thompson also rates Levi's Choice highly and has earmarked the Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on October 2 as his mission during the Sydney spring carnival.

"He's coming along super and I couldn't be happier with him," Thompson said.

"He's nominated for the Caulfield Guineas but he'll have to prove himself in Sydney to warrant going away.

"The plan at this stage is for him to run in the Spring Champion Stakes at his third run in.

"He's due to trial at Randwick on Friday and then go first-up into the Ming Dynasty and then the Spring Stakes at Newcastle."

The Group Three Spring Stakes (1600m) will be run on September 15.

Meanwhile, Thompson declared Run For Levi was on target for his mission in the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on August 28.

Run For Levi also returned to Sydney after finishing seventh in the TJ Smith and is set to make his comeback in the Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday week.

"Craig Williams rode him when he trialled well at Warwick Farm recently and he's ready to go to the races now," Thompson said.
