Steven King is hoping veteran sprinter Let Go Thommo can kick-start the new season for him with a win in Saturday's Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield.

King, who had a break from riding with his family over the school holidays, has been quiet in the week and a half he's been back in the saddle but intends to step it up from Saturday.

"I rode Let Go Thommo in a jumpout and I was very happy with the way he went," King said.

"I'm very keen to get the ball rolling with the spring approaching and Monday will also be a big day as I'm riding Rostova and Predatory Pricer at the Cranbourne trials."

Both Group winners and Group One-placed, the Steve Richards-trained filly Rostova and Predatory Pricer, prepared by Paul Murray, are being readied for spring riches.

Let Go Thommo, a rising nine-year-old, hasn't won since King rode him to victory over subsequent Cox Plate winner Maldivian in the Group Two Carlyon Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in January 2008.

The Laranto gelding is one of four Group One winners in Saturday's weight-for-age 1200m feature, the others being 2008 Stradbroke Handicap winner Mr Baritone, 2008 Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Orange County and 2009 Robert Sangster Stakes winner Bel Mer.

King was aboard Let Go Thommo when he won the 2007 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville by a nose from Tesbury Jack.

At that stage of his career he was prepared by West Australian trainer Steven Ryan and later by Ryan's father Michael who is a part-owner of the horse.

But at his past 12 runs he has been prepared at Flemington by Simon Zahra for his Carlyon victory and four placings, with his latest start a sixth to Lucky Secret in a Moonee Valley Quality Hcp (1200m) at the end of March when beaten 1-3/4 lengths after striking interference near the winning post.

While he has run well fresh with three first-up placings from six tries, Let Go Thommo is yet to win when resuming.

Let Go Thommo is the oldest horse in the Bletchingly, with the youngest of the 14 nominations being rising five-year-olds Bel Mer, the exciting I Am Invincible, With Apologies and Maxisun.
