Rangirangdoo is considered a kid's pony around the stable but he is proving to be a lethal weapon on the racetrack.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding staked his claim for next month's Group One Epsom Hcp (1600m) with a sizzling victory in Saturday's Tramway Hcp (1400m) at Randwick with Waller predicting the best is yet to come.

"He keeps taking each step we give him and there's no better way to be heading into some of these big races ahead," Waller said.

"He's a big kid, the stable pet really, and racing-wise he is still learning which you saw over the concluding stages today but he will keep improving.

"He's a very serious horse, how good you don't know until you give them that next step."

That next step will be the Group Two Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in two weeks with his ultimate test to come a fortnight after that in the Epsom.

Rangirangdoo is building an imposing record with his victory in Saturday's Group Three race his sixth from 10 starts, and the five-year-old is yet to miss a place.

Corey Brown parked him just behind the speed which was set by Strat's Flyer who was allowed to dictate in front.

But when Brown asked for an effort in the straight Rangirangdoo ($4 fav) responded, getting the better of Strat's Flyer ($6) to win by three-quarters of a length with country galloper Murray's Sun ($12) running another good race to finish 1-3/4 lengths away third.

Topweight Mentality overraced with the slow tempo and finished ninth while both Queenslander Albert The Fat (fourth) and the Anthony Cummings-trained Road To Rock (sixth) were doing their best work late.

Rangirangdoo's win made up for what had been a frustrating afternoon for Waller who had to settle for minor placings with Strike One in the second race and Triple Honour in the Chelmsford Stakes while Deer Valley was also a luckless fifth to Melito in the Furious Stakes.

The Tramway victory also provided him with the second leg of a two-state metropolitan double after Future's Dream claimed the Simon George & Sons Plate (1805m) at Eagle Farm.
