Having a third different jockey in as many starts aboard the in-form Mary's Grace holds no concerns for trainer Kylie Gavenlock ahead of the Group Two Villiers Stakes at Randwick.

The Gosford trainer has entrusted the ride on Mary's Grace in Saturday's 1600m feature to Group One winning apprentice Peter Wells following recent injuries to senior riders Grant Buckley and Peter Robl.

Wells takes over from Robl who steered the mare to a last-start win in the Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m)at Wyong on December 7.

The ride was a late pick-up for Robl after regular jockey Buckley suffered a hand injury at Canterbury three days earlier.

Buckley rode Mary's Grace when she ran second at Randwick n November 22 to stablemate Ratatat Lass who was ridden by Wells.

One of three riders injured in a pile-up at Rosehill last Wednesday, Robl will be sidelined for eight weeks with a fractured vertebra in his neck.

Gavenlock can't believe the circumstances surrounding the musical chairs that are being played out on Mary's Grace but she has plenty of faith in Wells getting the job done.

"It's unbelievable, through no fault of her own we've got another jockey but I've had a bit of luck with Peter, he won on Ratatat Lass and on Rebel Prince for me at Wyong earlier this year," Gavenlock said.

"She's a very easy horse to ride and I'm sure Peter will give her every chance and has shown he can handle these bigger races."

Wells made a stunning Group One riding debut with his win on the Paul Perry-trained Newport in the Metropolitan Handicap in October.

Mary's Grace produced a brilliant front-running display to defeat Royal Rock by 1-1/2 lengths in the Mona Lisa Stakes and Gavenlock has no doubts the mare will get the 1600 metres on Saturday.

"Her sire Twining and the mare Elysium both won over the distance and we've always thought she'd run it and the way she finished off last start has given us even more confidence she will handle it," Gavenlock said.

"This is a big step up for her but we've come to a stage in her career where we have to go to the next level and have a look, it's a big ask but she deserves a go."

Mary's Grace's victory at Wyong sparked a big night of celebrations for the Gavenlock team and she said they would all make the trip to Randwick on Saturday.

"The crew were a bit seedy but they will all back up on the weekend, she's a horse who makes a lot of people happy and they wouldn't miss it for the world," Gavenlock said.

"It's great for all of our staff to have a horse competing at this level, we've only got a small team."

Ratatat Lass, who only beat one runner home in the Mona Lisa, has gone to the spelling paddock.
