Multiple stakeswinner Youthful Jack will have his next start under lights in the Listed Canterbury Classic as he builds towards the Group One Randwick Guineas in March.

The Allan Denham-trained gelding made it three consecutive victories when scoring in the Listed Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 27.

His last-start triumph added to his black-type wins in the Australia Post Stakes (1400m) in June last year and the Doomben Slipper (1350m) a month earlier.

Senior owner Ross Stitt said Youthful Jack had been back in work for a week and would run in the 1100-metre Classic at the Canterbury night meeting on January 29.

"He had a week off after the Vo Rogue and has been working well since returning," Stitt said.

"We think the Canterbury Classic will be a nice race for him even though it's only 1100 metres, and from there we'll take a look at the Randwick Guineas."

Following his win in the Vo Rogue in which he started the $1.40 favourite, jockey Robert Thompson declared the horse a potential topliner.

Youthful Jack stormed home from the back of the field to beat Express Air by a half-length.

"That's the difference between good horses and great horses. He was three or four lengths off them one stride and in the next stride he's picked them up," Thompson said.

And while Stitt agrees that Youthful Jack is something special he said he wasn't getting too far ahead of himself.

"At the moment I'll say that he's a very good money earner for us but we'll just wait and see how he measures up in the Canterbury Classic first," Stitt said.

"He won fairly easily last start but I'm sure things will get tougher for him in Sydney."

The $500,000 Randwick Guineas (1600m) is on March 14 and the winner of the race is exempt from the ballot for the $1.6 million AJC Australian Derby and the $2 million Doncaster Handicap which are both in April.

Youthful Jack has won 10 of his 14 starts and been placed twice on his way to winning almost $500,000 in prizemoney.
