Irish Lights kicks off her autumn campaign in the Group Three Rubiton Stakes with a rematch with the brilliant filly Avenue at Caulfield on Saturday.

Group One Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights was an acceptor for last Saturday's Lightning Stakes at Flemington but trainer David Hayes scratched her because owner Coolmore Stud didn't want her taking on stablemate Nicconi who won the Group One 1000m feature.

Irish Lights is the only horse to beat the Peter Moody-trained Avenue to date when she scored by 2-3/4 lengths from the Anabaa filly over 1100m down the Flemington straight in September.

"Last time they met Irish Lights beat her well and they've both improved since so it will be interesting," Hayes said.

"If she comes out and brains them she'll go on to the Oakleigh Plate and the Newmarket and will be well weighted in both.

"If she gets beaten it will be in a stylish way, she'll be rattling home.

"I know she's going to run very well and if she's looking for seven furlongs (1400m) she'll run in the Kewney Stakes and then go to Sydney for the Coolmore and the Arrowfield.

"In my heart I think she'll be sprinting."

Avenue, who has won four of her five starts, meets Irish Lights 2kg better under the set weights plus penalties conditions of the 1100m Rubiton and has the better of the barrier draw, coming up with gate one while Irish Lights drew the outside barrier in the 11-horse field.

However her jockey Glen Boss, who has won on Irish Lights all three times he has ridden her, is not concerned about the draw.

"It doesn't matter, good horses overcome those things," he said.

Avenue is $3.40 fixed odds favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of 2009 Oakleigh Plate runner-up Lucky Secret at $4.50, Irish Lights ($4.60), Here De Angels ($5.50) with Rostova and Secret Flyer best of the rest at $16.
