Three Melbourne Cup-winning riders and the country's most famous trainer will all play a role when the Stayer's Cup returns to 3200m at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Stayer's Cup was reduced to 2400m between 1988 and last year but reverts to 3200m on Saturday when Bart Cummings, who has trained the winners of 12 Melbourne Cups over the same gruelling distance, has the favourite in Yaqubi who'll be ridden by Blake Shinn.

Shinn is also no stranger to success over 3200m, winning the Melbourne Cup on the Cummings-trained Viewed in 2008.

Corey Brown finished second to Viewed on Bauer that day but returned a year later and won the Melbourne Cup on Shocking.

Brown will have his first ride on Stayer's Cup outsider Lang on Saturday, while Kerrin McEvoy, winner of the 2000 Melbourne Cup on Brew, will ride Kettledrum for David Payne.

Brown's mount, Lang, is actually the best-performed runner over the trip having finished third and then fourth in the Sydney Cups of 2008 and 2009.

Despite his $23 quote on TAB Sportsbet, Hawkesbury trainer Wanda Ings fears Lang the most as she attempts to win the Stayer's Cup with Two Towers, one of eight horses having their first start over the trip.

"I think Lang's run the other day (in the Winter Cup) was good and he's the two-miler," Ings said.

"He's the hardest to beat, I think."

Rather than being apprehensive about Two Towers going into uncharted territory for the first time, Ings is excited at the prospect of the stayer getting to a distance she believes will suit him perfectly.

Two Towers has been set for the Stayer's Cup - one of only two 3200m races in NSW - all preparation.

"He's one of those horses, you never get to the bottom of him," Ings said.

"He's always looking for further and I've wanted to try him over the two miles.

"The series of races has suited us down to the ground and I thought we'd attack this two-mile race at the end of his preparation."

Two Towers began his preparation racing over 1550m and then 1800m before stepping to 2000m in the Lord Mayor's Cup at Rosehill on May 8 when he finished eighth.

From there Ings progressed him to the Listed McKell Cup (2400m) where Two Towers chased home Scouting Wide to finish less than a length away in second.

His most recent outing saw him finish a two-length fourth in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m).

"He goes to sleep early and never gets on the bit and travelling," Ings said.

"He's going to do that for as long as you like and then when you wake him up he'll finish off."
