The Mick Price-trained youngster Holdontoyahorses has defied stable expectations and burst into Blue Diamond calculations with an easy win at Caulfield.

Price's assistant trainer Mick Nolan said the Dane Shadow filly had blossomed from an ugly-looking juvenile into an unbeaten chance for the Blue Diamond.

"She was such a big, gross filly you wouldn't have thought she would end up a two-year-old," Nolan said.

"She used to look like her mother's name, Dorothy Dinosaur."

Holdontoyahorses won stylishly at her Seymour race debut on December 23 but Nolan said she had gone on to another level with Saturday's easy win in the Thomas North Plate (1100m).

Racing in blinkers for the first time, she was two lengths last passing the 600m but quickened at the top of the straight to be just behind the leaders before spearing through a gap at the 200m to put the race beyond doubt.

Flor Do Mar ran home well but was no match for Holdontoyahorses who scored by 2-3/4 lengths.

First starter Redangelo raced handy throughout and was a half-neck away third while race favourite Covered In Class was fourth, six lengths from the winner.

Covered In Class was ranked alongside Golden Archer and One Last Chance as a Blue Diamond hope for the Peter Moody stable after winning his Mornington debut by three lengths last week but he failed to back up on Saturday.

Jockey Luke Currie said the colt raced flat after rearing when the gates opened.

"He popped up in the air when he jumped and I gave him a little niggle to go forward," Currie said.

"It would have been nice to get an easier lead and he will be better for the run."

Jockey Damien Oliver said he was expecting a big run from Holdontoyahorses after riding the filly trackwork during the week and believes she can be a genuine Blue Diamond contender.

"She worked really well on Tuesday and I was really happy with her," Oliver said.

"Blinkers seemed to really switch her on and todayshe showed a nice turn of foot."
