Impressive Moonee Valley winner Metonymy could be the Blue Diamond Stakes sleeper in the Peter Moody stable.

Moody has been so taken with the filly, who has had only two starts, that he bought her sister for $40,000 at the Magic Millions sale last week.

Coincidently, Metonymy also cost $40,000 but is proving a bargain with earnings already above $36,000.

Both fillies are by Hotel Grand from unraced Canny Lad mare Shack who is a sister to Group Three winner Peat Bog and half sister to Group Two winner Heather.

Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor said Metonymy's sister was the only Hotel Grand filly catalogued at the Magic Millions and Moody was determined to buy her.

"She (Metonymy) was the first winner by Hotel Grand and our first two-year-old runner for the season," O'Connor said.

"Pete thought the yearling looked very similar to Metonymy and we are hoping that lightning can strike again."

O'Connor said the new purchase had already been largely syndicated by stable owners, including those associated with Metonymy.

At her race debut Metonymy was a brave second to the David Hayes-trained Dinner Date in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on November 13 and then romped home three lengths ahead of Noble Twostep at Moonee Valley on November 26.

"She was very impressive at the Valley and is going to be a good backup for whatever is heading towards the Blue Diamond Preludes," O'Connor said.

Despite an encouraging start to her career, Metonymy has been in the shadow of unbeaten stablemates Golden Archer and One Last Dance, and Covered In Class.

Golden Archer and One Last Dance will race next in the Blue Diamond Previews at Caulfield on Australia Day.

A Rock Of Gibraltar colt, Golden Archer easily won his only two starts last month at Flemington and Caulfield.

One Last Dance is a daughter of Encosta De Lago and could not have been more impressive winning by more four lengths at Moonee Valley on December 17.

Covered In Class was an easy Mornington winner at his debut and backed up with a disappointing fourth to Holdontoyahorses in the Thomas North Plate at Caulfield.

O'Connor said the Exceed And Excel colt was still a chance to have an impact in the autumn.

"Things didn't go his way last time," O'Connor said.

"He is a bold going horse and you can't really hold him up.

"He's is not done there yet for the autumn."
