Jockey Jason Holder remains in a serious but stable condition in a Brisbane hospital following a horrific fall at Eagle Farm.

Holder, who celebrated his biggest race victory aboard Phelan Ready in last Saturday's Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast, has been placed in an induced coma.

He was knocked unconscious momentarily on Wednesday and was treated on the track for an injury to the back of his head after being thrown heavily to the ground when his mount Oscar The Great fell in the Te Rapa Handicap.

Holder, 32, a five-times winner of the Adelaide jockeys' premiership, had to be restrained while being treated on the track before being transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Queensland Racing Limited chief steward Reid Sanders said Holder was receiving visitors from family members only.

"I spoke with Jason's father, John, this morning and he told me he's been placed in an induced coma," said Sanders.

"I was one of the first on the scene. It just goes to show you what a great leveller racing is.

"Last Saturday he was on a high after winning the Magic Millions and now this.

"Unfortunately (jockey) Joe Bowditch's horse hit him coming through."

Bowditch, also a former Adelaide rider, rode Spirito Volante who made a run with Holder's mount near the 300 metres.

"Jason and I were making our runs together when it started to get very tight," Bowditch said.

"His horse clipped the heels of another runner and went straight down. There was nothing I could do. He went straight under my horse."
