Jockey Jason Holder is showing signs of recovery after regaining consciousness following a fall at Wednesday's Eagle Farm meeting.

His manager Tad Pattillo said Holder, who is in a serious but stable condition, woke from an induced coma on Saturday before being sedated again by doctors at Royal Brisbane Hospital.

"He's out of the coma which is great news and everyone is overwhelmed," Pattillo said.

"He came out of the coma this afternoon but he was a bit aggressive so the doctors sedated him again."

Pattillo said Holder opened his eyes a few times on Friday and scans had been positive.

Holder suffered a fractured skull and cheekbone when his mount Oscar The Great fell in the Te Rapa Handicap (1200m).

Pattillo said Holder would be sidelined indefinitely.

Holder celebrated his biggest race victory aboard Phelan Ready in last Saturday's $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.

He was knocked unconscious momentarily in the fall and was treated on the track for an injury to the back of his head after being thrown heavily to the ground.

Holder's head was clipped by Spirito Volante, ridden by Joe Bowditch, as the pair made a run near the 300 metres.
