The in-form Bill and Symon Wilde stable's exciting young stayer Hissing Sid will carry topweight in Saturday's Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington then head to the paddock before embarking on a spring Cups campaign.

The Golden Snake four-year-old was to be spelled after he gave the stable its first Warrnambool Cup victory on May 2, beating Our Smoking Joe and Saturday's rival Joontoo Gemini.

"Initially we were going to spell him but he pulled up very well and we are keen to try and get his rating up a bit more before he goes out," Warrnambool-based Bill Wilde said.

"Regardless of what happens on Saturday he will be going out."

Wilde said Hissing Sid needed to win a couple of decent races to get his rating of 102 up if he was to make it into races such as the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

"Baughurst didn't quite make it into either the Caulfield or the Melbourne Cups last spring with a rating of 106 so Hissing Sid needs another notch or two in his belt," he said.

The gelding is unbeaten in three starts beyond 1800m having won over 2000m at Caulfield in July last year and by 4-1/4 lengths over the same trip at Flemington two starts back on April 25.

At his only attempt beyond 2000m, Hissing Sid won the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m) and Wilde is confident he will eventually get Saturday's distance of 3200m.

"He's probably a gallop or a race short of competing over 3200 metres, but this race is here and we've decided to have a go at it," the trainer said.

"I'm just hoping he settles and gets a good run in the race."

Hissing Sid, who will carry 58kg and give all but two rivals a 5kg weight advantage, drew barrier 12 in the 20-horse field plus three emergencies.

He will again be handled by Bendigo-based Wayne Hokai who has ridden him in all but one of his 13 starts.

A $25,000 buy at the Autumn Yearling Sale, Hissing Sid has already proven himself to be a real bargain having won six races and being placed on another four occasions for $289,590 in prizemoney.

Wilde has built up a reputation for buying cheap yearlings who go on and make it on the racetrack such as Badger's Wood for $7,000 and Baughurst for $24,000.

Like Baughurst, the winner of nine races and $588,865 in prizemoney, Hissing Sid is out of an At Talaq mare.

Badger's Wood won nine races and $313,167 in stakes.

Even this year the dearest yearlings Wilde bought were around the $35,000 mark and he is hoping to attract some bigger clients in the future.

Hissing Sid is $2.60 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of last week's Flemington 2800m winner Ladies In Luck at $7, Grand Destiny at $9 and Grizz at $11.
