Hissing Sid will be set on a Caulfield and Melbourne Cups campaign after outclassing his opposition and topping off a highly-successful carnival for the Bill and Symon Wilde stable in the Warrnambool Cup.

"It's a dream come true," Symon Wilde, who this season joined his father, a dentist at Warrnambool, as co-trainer of the 20-horse team they have in work, said.

They won three races over the three days, one on each day, but fell one win short of winning the trainers' bonus of a Mercedes Benz four-wheel drive valued at $88,000.

"I just knew he was on song. He's a natural stayer, doesn't take a lot of work, a pleasure to train and bad luck was the only thing that was going to beat him," Symon Wilde said.

"They went hard and Hok (jockey Wayne Hokai) got off the fence. It was so easy watching it. I really think he's a very, very good stayer."

Sent out $2.30 favourite, Hissing Sid missed the start slightly, which he has a habit of doing, and raced wide before working his way forward and hitting the front on the home turn.

From there the 2350m Listed race was his and he went on to score by 2-1/2 lengths from Our Smoking Joe with Joontoo Gemini 2-1/4 lengths away third.

Wilde said he had to give a lot of credit to the Bendigo-based Hokai who had done a lot of work getting the Golden Snake four-year-old to settle and made the trip to Warrnambool twice last week to ride him in trackwork.

"We knew he was going to make a good stayer but it was all about getting him to settle to run out a trip," he said.

"He'll go straight to the paddock and when he comes back we'll have our eye on the spring prizes."

Bill Wilde bought Hissing Sid for around $25,000 as a yearling and the gelding, out of the At Talaq mare Domitrix, has raced 13 times for six wins and four placings.

"Dad has an amazing record buying yearlings, that's his forte. He only spends up to $30,000 on them. Imagine what he could do with $100,000," Symon Wilde said.
