David Hayes produced a couple of promising three-year-olds, Legalistic and Maraaseem, to win at Sandown and both of them are being aimed at Group One races this spring.

Legalistic, by Encosta De Lago, bounced out of the barriers to lead all the way in Wednesday's Vite Cheval Hcp (1200m) while Redoute's Choice filly Maraaseem ran on strongly to win the AR Blackwood Hcp (1400m).

Legalistic is among the first declarations for the $1 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9 while Maraaseem is still in the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield four days later.

"He's (Legalistic) been gelded since his last preparation and that could be the key to the horse as he was quite colty as a two-year-old," Hayes' nephew and assistant trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"He's a bit more even tempered now."

As a juvenile Legalistic finished eighth in the Blue Diamond Stakes and sixth in the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes.

"He's a tough and sound horse and he has some good attributes, so we'll certainly consider the Guineas Prelude," Dabernig said.

"He likes the wet and is bred to being by Encosta De Lago out of a Snippets mare, so I hope he's not just a wet tracker."

The Group Three Guineas Prelude (1400m) is run at Caulfield on Saturday week.

Ridden by Brad Rawiller, Legalistic ($3.60 fav) scored by a long neck from Territory ($4.20) with Mr Chard ($8) 1-1/2 lengths away third.

Maraaseem made it two straight after winning a maiden on the synthetic track at Geelong last month and Dabernig said she was heading towards the Thousand Guineas.

"She's improving with every run and she's shown she can handle the wet as well so she's pretty versatile and is in form at the right time," Dabernig said.

"She's got a great temperament and constitution and is lovely and sound so we'll push on from here and keep raising the bar."

Ridden by apprentice Jake Noonan, Maraaseem ($6) swept home late to score by a length from Our Pride And Joy ($4 fav) with Zubbaya ($7.50) a length away third.

The filly is out of the Zabeel mare Warm Smytzer and Dabernig said he liked the way she could switch off and then accelerate.

Hayes, who is currently visiting Hong Kong, capped off a good day by making it a treble when Testa Rossa four-year-old Token Of Honour ($3.60 fav) landed the Betfair Hcp (1500m) giving Rawiller a double.
