Wet track form and a drop in class has David Pfieffer confident Gai's Choice can return to the winner's circle at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Pfieffer had entered Gai's Choice for last Sunday's Group Three Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) which was postponed but the filly will take her place in the Free Entry Today Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Gai's Choice contested the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m) at her most recent start and faded in the straight to finish eighth after working forward from the outside gate.

The Keith Nolan has been added to Saturday's Rosehill Guineas program with the distance amended to 1800m but that is too far for Gai's Choice.

"I would like to give her a go over a bit of a journey in time, but I'd like to do it off the appropriate steps," Pfieffer said.

"She is a filly that wants 1400 metres to 1500 metres and she likes the wet as she won on a heavy track at the Gold Coast (in January). I think she'll be very competitive tomorrow."

Gai's Choice took out the $200,000 Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Quality (1300m) at her only attempt on ground worse than dead.

Warwick Farm was rated a heavy (8) on Tuesday afternoon with 21mm of overnight rain and 79mm for the week.

The winner of four of her nine starts, Gai's Choice has 58.5kg in the fillies and mares Benchmark 75 but Pfieffer is not concerned about lumping top weight.

"I think sometimes when your jockey (Corey Brown) knows the horse and it's a horse that can carry the weight, then I think sometimes weight is not an issue," he said.

While Pfieffer has elected for the midweek option on Wednesday, he plans to step the filly back into stakes company in the coming weeks.

The Group Three Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on April 9, the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) on April 16, and the Listed James HB Carr Stakes (1400m) on April 23 are possible stakes options for the filly should she run to expectations.

Meanwhile, Darley's numberone jockey Kerrin McEvoy will miss the Warwick Farm meeting after having a fall at trackwork on Tuesday morning.

McEvoy had precautionary X-rays on Tuesday afternoon due to soreness in his ribs but they came back clear and he will be fit for Saturday's Rosehill Guineas meeting.

"I went and had some precautionary X-rays but they came back all good," McEvoy said.
