She's been in career best form this preparation, so it was no surprise when the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich on Saturday was won in commanding fashion by talented General Nediym mare Gai's Choice, an $81,000 purchase from the Widden draft at the 2009 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, reports Tara Madgwick at www.breednet.com.au.

Her report adds: The David Pfeiffer trained mare powered home out wide from back in the field to win the 1350 metre event by half a length, taking her overall record to seven wins from 24 starts with prizemoney of $388,950.

Pfeiffer said the manner of the four-year-old's win could convince the team to back Gai's Choice up in next Saturday's Group I Tattersalls Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

"We had to chance our arm," Pfeiffer said. "Coming here, we had a wide gate and we had it all against us. She has done it at both ends and we might have to consider the Winter Stakes. That's three in a row now and we all know when mares are in form, keep putting them in races. If we had drawn a good gate, I would nearly have declared her because it is the best she has looked this prep and she just keeps improving for us. We might have to rethink where we go next."

Bred on the same cross as Magic Millions 2YO winner Military Rose, Gai's Choice was bred by Widden Stud and is the first winner for stakes-placed Flying Spur mare Faster Pussycat, a half-sister to the dam of Group I winning sprinter Eagle Falls. Faster Pussycat has a yearling filly by Northern Meteor that passed in at the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and has a weanling filly also by Northern Meteor, but will not have a foal this spring after missing to Stratum in 2011.
