Gai Waterhouse has taken a vastly different approach into Thursday's Listed Gosford Gold Cup with her two runners.

Kontiki Park, who comes back in distance, and Devils Arcade, up in journey, will fly the flag for Tulloch Lodge in the 2100-metre provincial contest.

Stable spokesman Mark Webbey said Devils Arcade may have a class edge over her stablemate but Kontiki Park's fitness levels made it hard to split the pair.

"Devils Arcade is a lightly-raced mare and Kontiki Park is a tough gelding who's rock-hard fit and tries his heart out," Webbey said.

Four-year-old Devils Arcade won her first two starts this preparation in midweek company before stepping to Listed grade when second in the Belle of the Turf (1600m) at Gosford on October 17.

Waterhouse then sent the daughter of Snowland to Melbourne where she finished fourth in the Listed Herald Sun Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

Corey Brown rode Devils Arcade in Melbourne and will be aboard again at Gosford while Tim Clark will take the ride on Kontiki Park.

"Devils Arcade has done well since Melbourne, Corey was happy with her run in the stakes race down there and just said she was looking for 10 furlongs (2000m)," Webbey said.

"We did take her back in distance from a mile at Gosford to the seven (furlongs, 1400m) but she needs 2000 metres and I expect a forward showing from her."

Kontiki Park drops in distance after running over 2400 metres at his past two starts.

The five-year-old gelding was runner-up, beaten 4-1/4 lengths, behind subsequent Lexus Stakes winner and Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday in the Listed Tatt's Club Cup two starts back.

He then found his 59.5kg too much at Rosehill on October 30 when going down by a length to Stand To Gain and Kossack.

Acceptances for the Gosford Gold Cup, which has attracted 23 nominations, including last year's winner Spinney, will be taken on Monday.
