Gavin Andrews believes Electric Hatter is racing like a horse more than half his age and the trainer is so impressed he is eyeing off a crack at the Adelaide Cup.

The nine-year-old is nominated for two races at Rosehill on Saturday with his trainer favouring the 2400 metre event over a 1900 metre race.

"I've got an ambitious plan to run him in the Adelaide Cup (3200m) but to do that he would have to at least win a 2400-metre race in Sydney to warrant taking him there," Andrews said.

"One or two more Saturday wins in town would convince me to take him to Adelaide, we wouldn't be going there to make up the numbers."

Electric Hatter comes into his next assignment after scoring a comfortable all-the-way victory at Randwick last Saturday over 2000 metres.

"We thought at first that he got away with a pretty easy race but when you analyse it you see that he broke an 11-year class record and did a great job to win like he did," Andrews said.

"He had a few issues and only started racing when he was seven and is more or less in his second season of racing and he's going more like a four-year-old."

Andrews, a former apprentice jockey to Newcastle trainer Paul Perry, praised Kathy O'Hara for a perfectly rated frontrunning ride on Electric Hatter at Randwick.

The gelding got the chance to put the brakes on before kicking strongly and going on to defeat Hip Hop Dancer by 1-1/4 lengths.

"I don't think anybody in Australia could have ridden him better than Kathy did," Andrews said.

"Kathy thinks the horse will have no dramas running the two miles (3200m) and there aren't many horses who can stay that trip and accelerate, hopefully he can."

The Group Two Adelaide Cup is at Morphettville on March 9.

Electric Hatter, who has won four of his 34 starts and been placed seven times, and has been in work since February last year.

"On paper it looks like a long preparation but we've given him a few freshen-ups and let ups in that time, and he's appreciated those and is thriving," Andrews said.

Stablemate Wally Hatter will run at Rosehill in a 1500 metre two metropolitan win handicap.

The nine-year-old comes into the race after running sixth to Hussenor at Rosehill on December 27 over 1100 metres.

"He was very unlucky, he got back midfield and stuck in the ruck and flew late, it was a good run and he should run well on Saturday," Andrews said.
