Terry O'Sullivan has announced Adelaide Cup plans for solid staying mare Ladies In Luck following her return to winning form at Flemington on Saturday.

O'Sullivan had been disappointed with her indifferent form and, out of desperation, he started training her out of a paddock and stepped her up in distance.

The changes worked and she found form winning as a $26 chance over 2440m at Caulfield on December 10.

She has continued to race well since with a second over 2500m and a third over 2520m as well as a sixth to Good Red in the Listed Bagot Hcp (2800m) leading up to her 2600m victory in the $100,000 Big6.

Ridden by leading apprentice Nick Hall, Ladies In Luck scored by 1-1/4 lengths from race leader Red Buttons with the favourite Sooze three-quarters of a length away third.

O'Sullivan said the key to her good summer form was not to work her too hard.

Due to the heat, she did not work on Thursday and he just gave her a walk to keep her fresh.

"She's super fit. You're a genius when it works and you're a dill when you get beat," said O'Sullivan who co-trains with his daughter Karina.

"She's just improved out of sight.

"We haven't been working her hard at home and she seems to be thriving.

"In fact I think she's put a little bit of weight on so we're pretty rapt and if she keeps going on we hope to head over to Adelaide to have a go at the two miles.

"She's shown every indication she'll run the 3200 metres, she can stay."

The Group Two Adelaide Cup is at Morphettville on March 9.

The mare is raced by O'Sullivan's wife Robyn and fellow trainer Therese Patton who used to ride for the stable.

Ladies In Luck has now won four races and been placed in another 10 of her 31 starts.
