Sydney trainer David Payne will welcome UAE Derby winner Musir to his stable in the near future with the Australian bred colt to be aimed at spring weight-for-age features.

Musir led in a one-two for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum and trainer Mike de Kock in the UAE Derby at the Dubai World Cup meeting in the early hours of Sunday morning (AEDT).

Bred by the sheikh, the Redoute's Choice colt is the first foal from Dizzy De Lago.

He was passed in at the Easter sale and subsequently sent to de Kock in South Africa where he won the country's most prestigious juvenile race, the Group One Golden Horseshoe (1400m).

"I've got about six horses for the sheikh, mostly young ones," Payne said.

"It is a recent association, I have been training for him for about eight months.

"I was told about a month ago this horse would be coming and I'm very excited to train a horse of his quality.

"He will have a Sydney spring campaign aimed at the George Main Stakes and then hopefully go on to the Cox Plate."

In the more immediate future, Payne's focus is on next Saturday's Golden Slipper and his stable representative Masquerader.

The colt cemented a start in the $3.5 million race when he beat Black Opal Stakes winner Decision Time in the Todman Stakes just over a week ago.

The victory gained him ballot exemption from the race but his Hong Kong owner still had to decide whether to pay the $150,000 late entry fee because he was not among original entries.

"The money has already been paid," Payne said.

"He has done very well since the Todman and I think is getting there at the right time.

"Obviously the barrier draw will play a big part. I'd like him between four and eight but you just have to go with what you get."

Masquerader was at $13 with TAB Sportsbet on Sunday while Queensland filly Military Rose retained her place at the top of the market at $3.40.
