Dolphin Jo returns to the scene of his best win in Saturday's Even Stevens Handicap at Caulfield.

Prepared at Stawell by Terry O'Sullivan and his daughter Karina, Dolphin Jo won the 2008 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Group Two level and secured a start in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) the following week.

However he went amiss when finishing 15th to All The Good, missed the Melbourne Cup and spent 14 months on the sidelines.

Now a seven-year-old, Dolphin Jo has had six runs since resuming in December and showed the O'Sullivans he was back to something like his best two starts ago.

Jockey Clare Lindop went forward on the Dolphin Street gelding and he battled on gamely when a long neck second to Moment In Time in the Group Three Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on February 27.

However O'Sullivan felt that Dolphin Jo went too hard in front before weakening to finish 13th to Capecover in the Group Two Adelaide Cup (3200m) on March 8.

The gelding has the blinkers off again and has had a freshen-up going into Saturday's 2425m event in which he will be ridden by 3kg-claiming apprentice Jake Noonan.

"He got 59kg so I thought it best to claim on him this time," O'Sullivan said.

"Hopefully he'll run well and we'll then press on towards the Andrew Ramsden Stakes with him."

The Listed Andrew Ramsden (3200m), run at Flemington on May 15, looks ideal for Dolphin Jo who ran a gallant fifth to Efficient in the 2007 Melbourne Cup.

He was runner-up to New Kid In Town in the 2007 Ramsden which was run at Sandown.

Among Dolphin Jo's five wins from 45 starts are the 2006 VRC St Leger (2800m) and the 2007 Bart Cummings (2530m), both at Listed level at Flemington.

He has won twice over 2400m at Caulfield.

The hardest for Dolphin Jo to beat appears to be the Lee Freedman-trained import Savarain ($2.20 fav) who made an impressive Australian debut with a win over 2000m at Caulfield on March 27, nearly 18 months after his last start in England.

The Rainbow Quest five-year-old won his last start in England, the Listed Noel Murless Stakes (2816m) at Newmarket in October 2008, before owner Jean Marc Charmat sent him to Australia with stablemate Speed Gifted.

Freedman sidelined the gelding after discovering he had a small hole in a tendon.

Trainer Mick Kent will be represented by Grand Destiny with stablemate and last-start Moonee Valley 2500m winner Oronero likely to run in Saturday's Listed Japan Trophy (2500m) at Morphettville.
