A big weight for exciting prospect Crown Seal has Albury trainer Brett Cavanough perplexed but he remains confident the three-year-old will step up to the mark in his return to city racing at Randwick.
Crown Seal has topweight of 58kg in the Gold Edition Handicap (1200m) on Saturday.
The Beautiful Crown gelding has won three of his last four starts in the country including a slashing 7-1/4 length win at Bathurst over 1100 metres on July 17 when he carried 57.5kg.
"He's a class four horse and he's lumping 58kg in town in a ratings 81," Cavanough said.
"They're handicapping my horse because of his winning by seven and starting the favourite. He's giving two and three kilos to horses who have won a couple of races in town."
Cavanough is confident that having top jockey Blake Shinn aboard will offset any weight issues.
"I've got a big opinion of Blake, he's a great rider and if he's not worth minus three (kilograms) then I'm not a good judge," Cavanough said.
Crown Seal had a couple of races in Sydney as a two-year-old with his best effort being a third to the Gai Waterhouse-trained Strategic Maneuver at Randwick in May last year.
"He's a lovely horse, he relaxes and does everything right, he's a real gentleman," Cavanough said.
"He had chronic heel pain but I think it's a thing of the past, we gave him a three-month spell, fixed it, and he's pain-free and enjoying racing and he's very fit for this race."
