Brett Cavanough says he is happy to be taking on unbeaten Golden Archer with Bossdon City in Wednesday's Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield.
The Beautiful Crown gelding, a $50,000 purchase at last year's Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney, made an auspicious debut when he beat $1.875 million yearling Godspeed over 1100m at Rosehill on January 15.
Albury-based Cavanough had to change plans for Bossdon City and tackle the Group Three colts and geldings Preview (1000m) after a nomination oversight forced him to miss the Inglis Classic (1200m).
"It was just a mistake," said Cavanough, who is the leading trainer in the NSW Southern District.
Cavanough is in the ownership of Bossdon City which he says is the best two-year-old he has prepared.
"Everything is good, I'm as happy as I can be. He's done everything right and I wouldn't change anything," he said.
Before his Rosehill win, Bossdon City won a 900m Wangaratta barrier trial by 10 lengths on January 4, proving he can handle both directions of racing.
"He's a professional. All the work's been done on him and he's educated every which way," Cavanough said.
"They won't want to come in underdone".
Cavanough doesn't venture to Melbourne often and said his last metropolitan winner in the Victorian capital was Ask The Music at Caulfield in December, 2006.
When he bought Bossdon City, Cavanough noted the horse was from the same family as Headway, Australia's champion two-year-old filly in 2008-09 and a Group One winner as a three-year-old.
"He looked a good, solid, running type of horse that was correct in every way and strong and I just thought he'd go early," Cavanough said.
Mathew Cahill retains the mount on Bossdon City after winning on him at Rosehill.
The Peter Moody-trained Golden Archer, a Flemington and Caulfield winner at his two outings, is $2.25 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Bossdon City at $4.40 with the unraced Boys On Tour and Envious next at $6.
In the fillies' Preview, Moody also has the favourite in impressive Moonee Valley winner One Last Dance at $2.50 ahead of Quench The Thirst at $5 and Graskop at $5.50.
Golden Archer is not in Blue Diamond Stakes markets as he is not nominated for the race but a $55,000 late entry fee can be paid.
