Corey Brown admits that watching next week's Golden Slipper from the sidelines will be difficult, but a win aboard Tobique in Saturday's Group One Rosehill Guineas will make being a spectator for the $3.5 million race a little bit easier.

Brown was handed a six-meeting suspension at Rosehill last Saturday for allowing his mount Fully Fledged to shift out onto Il Quello Veloce in the final 100 metres of the Group Two Phar Lap Stakes won by Heart Of Dreams.

The leading jockey's suspension begins after the Rosehill Guineas meeting and he will be permitted to return at Randwick on April 11 for the $1.6 million AJC Australian Derby (2400m), a race in which Tobique is the equal fourth favourite at $9 on TAB Sportsbet fixed odds.

"It's disappointing to miss the Slipper, and it's not just the Slipper it's the whole day and all of the rides I would have had that makes it difficult," Brown said.

"But at least I've got Tobique, he's a very nice horse and I'm hoping he can help drag me through the tailend of the carnival, it would certainly make things easier on Saturday week."

The Allan Denham-trained Tobique comes into the 2000-metre feature after finishing strongly to run fourth to Metal Bender in the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 14 when ridden by Peter Robl.

Brown, who won the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes on Tuesday Joy on March 7, was aboard Tobique two starts back when he rocketed home to win the Canberra Guineas (1400m) on March 8.

"I've ridden him in three of his five starts and won twice on him and he's really made great improvement since I first rode him," Brown said.

"From day one I was worried he was too much of a speed horse because he was going too hard in his trials but he's so much more relaxed now.

"He's got barrier 10 on Saturday but that doesn't matter because he gets back in his races anyway and he'll be saved up for a big finish again."

Tobique is raced by prominent owner-breeders Geoff and Beryl White who are hoping the three-year-old will follow the path travelled by their recently retired champion Eremein who won the Rosehill Guineas-AJC Derby double in 2005.

By Redoute's Choice, Tobique was bred at Invermien Stud by the Whites from their mare Mammoth, a daughter of their champion Marscay, winner of the 1982 Golden Slipper.

Tobique is at $6 on TAB Sportsbet while Metal Bender from the Jack Denham stable is the favourite at $3.
