San Domenico Stakes hopeful Classic Rush will be out to emulate the deeds of smart sprinter Regimental Gal in more ways than one when she steps out in the Group Three feature at Randwick.

Regimental Gal won the San Domenico in 2003, six years after her sire General Nediym claimed the 1000 metre sprint.

The Marc Conners-trained Classic Rush can also follow in the hoof prints of her sire Charge Forward who won the 2004 version of the race.

The victory by Regimental Gal started a successful run for fillies who have claimed four of the past six San Domenicos with Media (2005), Gold Edition (2006) and Sliding Cube (2007) keeping the flag flying.

"Hopefully it continues this year," Conners said.

Classic Rush has raced four times for two wins and wasn't far from some of the best juveniles last season.

She finished fourth behind Melito, Sunday Rose and subsequent Group One Champagne Stakes winner Onemorenomore in the Silver Slipper then failed to handle Flemington when fifth to Common Interest there in March.

"She ran some good races and when we took her to Melbourne she didn't handle the straight," Conners said.

"She got on her wrong leg and it was her only disappointing run."

Classic Rush will go into the San Domenico on Saturday with fitness on her side having posted a first-up victory over older horses at Wyong last month.

Conners, who prepared My Middi to finish second to Gold Edition in the San Domenico three years ago, is the first to admit the leap to stakes company is a big one but believes his filly is up to it.

"I think at this stage of the season she is," he said.

"She is up a lot in grade but she's very quick.

"Hopefully a few of the others won't be wound right up and are horses who will be better over 1200 or 1400 metres."

Classic Rush is one of six fillies entered for the San Domenico which has also attracted the attention of Conners' father Clarry who has nominated Endeavouring for the race.

Trainer Gerald Ryan is hoping the event will be a springboard into the Golden Rose for exciting colt Rothesay who will be striving to join stablemate, Saturday's impressive Rosehill winner Hus Der Lieften in the $1 million Group One on August 29.

In-form colt Winter King, Listed winner Shellscrape and $2.2 million yearling Metallurgical also feature among the 19 entries.
