Rod Craig is keen to get a guide on Circle Of Power's Spring Champion Stakes credentials in Saturday's Listed Dulcify Quality.

The three-year-old has been aimed at Saturday week's Group One 2000m event but his trainer wants to see him perform well enough in the Dulcify (1800m) at Randwick to warrant going there.

Circle Of Power was nominated for the Group Three Gloaming Stakes (1800m) last Saturday at Rosehill but Craig opted to keep him for the Dulcify.

"I saw everything that was anything was in last Saturday and I like the idea of the handicap conditions this week," Craig said.

"I also wanted to give him a start at Randwick because I think that is important.

"Randwick is a totally different track with the rise in the straight and seeing as though I hope to run him the following week (in the Spring Champion), I want to leave no stone unturned in his preparation."

Circle Of Power, currently a $26 chance for the Spring Champion Stakes, broke through last start for his first win in a 1550m Maiden at Canterbury.

It was a confidence-boosting victory and Craig now believes they have discovered the best way to ride the son of Arena.

In shorter races last season Circle Of Power needed to be ridden along to keep up which taught him to overrace.

"He was running his races in the middle stages," the trainer said.

However in his past two starts as the gelding has continued to step up in distance, Hugh Bowman and then Jim Cassidy have allowed him to go to the front and roll along at his own tempo.

It appears to be working and Craig is now looking forward to getting Circle Of Power up to a distance where he expects him to really thrive.

"He's done everything right since his last run, his work has been good and it's all systems go for Saturday," he said.

Peter Snowden prepared the first two across the line in the Gloaming Stakes - Retrieve and Erewhon - and will saddle up the favourite Yulalona in the Dulcify.

Yulalona won a 1300m 3YO Maiden on the Geelong synthetic track two starts ago prior to winning a 1600m Class One at Kembla at his most recent start.
