Local trainers have applauded the return of the Chipping Norton Stakes meeting to Warwick Farm and are adamant it should remain at its rightful home.
The track is in the south western suburb of Sydney which gives the feature race its name and Warwick Farm is home to around 1000 horses in training.
A last minute switch to Randwick in 2009 deprived the area of its premier meeting for the second year in a row and prompted outrage in the local community.
Guy Walter is the most successful trainer in the history of the Chipping Norton having won four times with champion galloper Tie The Knot between 1999 and 2002 and believes the meeting is a must for Warwick Farm.
"The Chipping Norton is a great race, it's a good horse's race," Walter said.
"If you look at the list of winners, normally the best weight-for-age horse of the year wins it. Its rightful place is at Warwick Farm and that's where it should remain.
"The Cox Plate is the Cox Plate because it is at Moonee Valley, it wouldn't be the same at Flemington.
"The Chipping Norton belongs here (at Warwick Farm)."
Clarry Conners has trained at the track longer than anyone else and says he is excited about Saturday.
"It's sensational, we've got about 30 friends and clients coming for the day," he said.
"It's good to be back."
Joe Pride, mindful the meeting is often a hugely successful day for the local trainers, has a strong team of horses engaged and plans to enjoy a successful afternoon.
"It's a must that the meeting is here, there's no doubt about that," Pride said.
"There's enough meetings at Randwick. It was a shame to ever lose it but anyway, it's back now so it's upwards and onwards from here and if it's well promoted and they keep putting money into this place it can be a success."
The meeting has attracted a bumper line-up of horses for the eight race card that includes five stakes races - the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes, Group Two Surround Stakes, Group Three Liverpool City Cup and Kindergarten Stakes, and the Listed Wiggle Quality.
Pride said a large crowd would only help in making the meeting a success both this year and into the future.
"A bit of a show of strength from the area would be very important in it going forward here and I'm sure they will get a good crowd. I just hope the weather is alright because that's one thing that can really keep the crowd away."
The Chipping Norton Stakes has attracted a field that includes 10 Group One winners including the Pride-trained Vision And Power.
The Group Three Kindergarten Stakes should provide a pointer to next month's $3.5 million Golden Slipper with highly-rated juveniles Solar Charged, Elimbari and the Conners-trained Georgette Silk facing each other for the first time.
