Bart Cummings believes Melbourne Cup winner Viewed is ready to take another step in his career and claim his first major weight-for-age victory in the Ranvet Stakes.

The five-year-old has had two runs this autumn for eye-catching fourth placings in the Apollo Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes, both won by Dubai-bound Tuesday Joy.

He will be joined in Saturday's Ranvet (2000m) at Rosehill by stablemate Moatize who finished sixth in the Chipping Norton.

"Viewed and Moatize will both run in the Ranvet," Cummings said.

"They are both going along very well. Jockeys have yet to be decided but we'll figure it out early in the week."

Craig Agnew was aboard Viewed for the Apollo while Grant buckley took the reins in the Chipping Norton.

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn was committed to Tuesday Joy in the Apollo and rode in Melbourne on Chipping Norton day but was aboard Viewed in his two barrier trials before he resumed racing.

Reigning Sydney Cup favourite Moatize, who ran sixth in the Melbourne Cup when ridden by Clare Lindop, was ridden by Tim Clark when seventh in the Apollo and Michelle Payne in the Chipping Norton.

Cummings' competition could come from close to home with son Anthony to saddle up Road To Rock in the Ranvet.

Road To Rock won two races in Melbourne before his sixth in the Australian Cup (2000m) on March 7, less than three lengths from the winner Niconero.

"He jarred up a little bit on the firm track in the Australian Cup but he's fine now and will run in the Ranvet," Cummings said.

"He deserves his chance."

Newport, who is also Sydney Cup bound, is another likely Ranvet starter following his return to winning form in Saturday's Randwick City Stakes (2000m).

The six-year-old's campaign hit a snag when he veered sideways out of the barriers in the Chipping Norton Stakes and was sent back to the barrier trials.

He went around at Newcastle on Tuesday and stamped his authority on Saturday's Group Three race.

"He will run in the Ranvet and then the BMW two weeks later," trainer Paul Perry said.

"We need to get the miles in his legs to get him fit for the Sydney Cup."
