Well-related three-year-old Green Tracer capped a great weekend for trainer Craig Carmody with a satisfying maiden victory at Kembla on Sunday.

Just a day after the former jockey notched his first stakes winner as a trainer with Single at Rosehill, Green Tracer took a step towards fulfilling his potential with a three-quarter length win in the Carlton Dry Plate (1300m).

Green Tracer is a full brother to Group One winner Shellscrape and stakes winning mare Red Tracer, both trained by Chris Waller.

He is raced by Geoff and Mary Grimish who are also in the ownership of Single who took out the Listed Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill.

"It's been a good couple of days," Carmody said.

"I'm just delighted to win a race with him. Geoff and Mary gave him to me as a yearling and he's always had the makings of a really nice horse but he's had issues that stopped him as a two-year-old.

"We've had to be really patient and Geoff and Mary have allowed me to take my time and he's starting to come good.

"He's come a long way to get here today and I'll just look for another race in the next two or three weeks."

Green Tracer was ridden by Nathan Berry who has also formed a great combination with Single.

"I've always thought he was loaded with ability," Berry said of Green Tracer.

"Today was the first time he didn't pull or didn't hang. He gave himself every chance and it was a soft win."

Carmody said the talented Single had pulled up well from his Sky High Stakes win and the Group One Doncaster Mile was still a consideration.

"The cosy option would be to run in the 2000 metre race on Doncaster day," Carmody said.

"He's still got a way to go to get into the Doncaster so we'll see how the next couple of weeks unfold.

"I'll have a chat to his owners and go from there."
