Gary Portelli and Butt I'm Ready's owners have lowered their sights in the hope of capturing some winning form now the spring carnival is over.
Butt I'm Ready didn't measure up in three stakes races in the early part of the Sydney spring so Warwick Farm trainer Portelli pulled the pin on his campaign to aim at easier races.
The gelding resumes from a nine-week let-up in a 3YO Benchmark 75 (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
"He didn't match up to the Group horses in the spring so we thought rather than bashing our heads against a brick wall against horses like Decision Time and company, we thought we'd back off him and give him three weeks at the farm," Portelli said.
"He's been back in work for six weeks, he's had a barrier trial and we're hoping to race through summer.
"He's a BOBS horse so we'll try and earn some good prizemoney."
Butt I'm Ready's only win in his nine starts was in a 2YO Handicap at Rosehill in February.
The son of More Than Ready was placed in the Listed Black Opal Stakes at Canberra in March but has been safely held in three starts as a three-year-old.
The gelding was last in the San Domenico Stakes, seventh in the Up And Coming Stakes and then 11th in the Ming Dynasty Quality won by Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer on a heavy track.
But I'm Ready is one of 13 nominations for the Rosehill race which includes the Group One-placed American Crew and the Peter Snowden-trained duo Secession and Hierarchy.
"It's still going to be hard enough to win but it's a big drop in grade for him and it would be nice to draw a decent barrier because he picked up a couple of bad habits in recent races when ridden forward from bad barriers," Portelli said.
"I don't want to see him leading because I think he's a better chaser."
Portelli also has juvenile Crazyforchristmas set to run in the 2YO Handicap (1100m) but he said Prerequisite, a nomination for the Benchmark 75 Hcp (1200m), would be saved for another day.
Crazyforchristmas finished 10 lengths behind the Gerald Ryan-trained winner Saramenha on debut when fourth in a 2YO Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill on October 30.
Saramenha is also nominated for Saturday's race.
Portelli believes Crazyforchristmas is a better horse than he showed that day but admitted the colt faced an uphill battle to turn the tables on Ryan's filly.
