Queensland three-year-old Buffering could make a surprise return to Sydney as part of an unorthodox campaign aimed at the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington in October.

Buffering is currently in Melbourne preparing for his assignment down the Flemington straight six (1200m) in Saturday's Group Two Danehill Stakes.

Trainer Rob Heathcote is concerned with the lack of suitable lead-up races to the Coolmore which is eight weeks after the Danehill Stakes.

"If he shows in the Danehill that he's up to Group One company then we want to give him his chance in the Coolmore," Heathcote said.

"The problem is it's a long way off from the Danehill and there's not many suitable races for him in between in Melbourne.

"He could go back to Sydney for the Roman Consul and then go back for the Coolmore or he could stay on in Melbourne and run in an open company race.

"But if he doesn't run up to our expectations on Saturday he'll go home and get ready for the Magic Millions (Trophy) in January."

The Group Two Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) will be run at Randwick on October 2.

Heathcote, last season's premier trainer in Queensland, was pleased with a 1000-metre gallop from Buffering down the Flemington straight on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately we couldn't give him a jumpout as we had planned but he still worked strongly over 1000 metres down the straight," Heathcote said.

Buffering, who finished an encouraging second last start in the Group Three Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 21, stargazed during the hitout.

However, Heathcote has dismissed it as a concern.

"Danny Nikolic rode him and said when he got off that whatever beats him on Saturday will win the Danehill," Heathcote said.

"Danny has ridden this horse every gallop he's had since I took him south and he's very excited about his prospects.

"Buffering stargazed a few times in his gallop but he really put his mind on the job when Danny gave him a crack with the whip.

"This trip away has been the making of this horse but Saturday will tell us more."

Heathcote has decided against using blinkers on Buffering who will clash with fellow Queenslander Military Rose in the Danehill Stakes.

Meanwhile, Heathcote was also pleased with Woorim who had a jumpout at Doomben on Tuesday ahead of his trip to Melbourne.

"Stathi Katsidis rode him in the jumpout and the horse really hit the line strongly," Heathcote said.

Woorim has put together three successive wins, culminating in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at Caloundra on July 3.

He has overcome a history of feet problems and will make his Melbourne debut at Moonee Valley on September 11.
